Is that a custom weapon slot???!

While we’re on the subject, make sure to only share ONE view of your creation and never the entire template in order to keep it safely yours. Your filled-out template is your key to the Painter Boss castle; if someone else has your full template, they can technically upload your character to the Workshop and claim it as their own. Create and share with caution!

While we have you gathered here, we have one more thing to announce; the Castle Crashers: Painter Boss Paradise DLC will launch on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM PDT! We can’t wait to share everything we’ve been working on with you and spend the summer creating powerful characters together!

FAQ

What assets can I customize for my custom character?
You will be able to customize the art for your character’s head, body, weapon, shield, portrait, beefy form, and Back Off Barbarian art.

How does magic work for my custom character? Can I create new magic?
You will be able to choose one existing magic moveset from any official playable character for your custom creation! You can not change the animations from the chosen moveset or create your own magic.

Are there any rules or guidelines for what custom content is allowed?
Like all Steam Workshop content, whatever you create is governed by the Steam Subscriber Agreement, in addition to the Steam Rules for User Generated Content. Failure to abide by these rules may result in your Workshop content being removed! That’s right, Herbert will yeet your content straight into the sunset.

I want to make [copyrighted character here], is that allowed? 
Plagiarizing someone else’s copyrighted work is against Steam’s rules and guidelines (see above). We can’t wait to see your unique creations, though!

Can someone steal my work and claim it as their own?
Yes – if you upload a complete image of your template somewhere online, someone else can upload it to the Steam Workshop and essentially claim it as their own. This is why we suggest that you only upload a thumbnail or portion of what you have created.

If I don’t own the DLC, but someone I’m playing with does, can I use custom characters?
If you’re playing with someone who owns the DLC, you will be able to choose any characters they’ve imported and enabled from the Steam Workshop!    

Can I load custom characters from the Steam Workshop to Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch?
The Painter Boss Paradise DLC is currently only available on Steam, meaning none of the DLC features are on console at this time.

Can I charge money for my creation?
No, you cannot charge others for downloading any custom characters you add to the Steam Workshop.

Are there any new levels and bosses in this DLC?
No – please refer to the “Original” versus “Fresh” graphic near the top of this post to see what features are coming in the DLC!

Greetings earthlings, fellow aliens, and any intergalactic creatures in between! Today is the day. Alien Hominid is BACK on PlayStation! Ready your green blaster, mutation juice, and grenades – it’s time to burn the Agency to the ground, PlayStation style!

After wrapping up development on Alien Hominid Invasion last year and mulling over what updates we could bring to our entire games library, The Behemoth Roadmap was born. Our team received many requests to bring Invasion and HD over to PlayStation after their recent release in 2023, so we made sure to include this as a priority stop in our big chicken road trip!

Our small (but mighty!) team appreciates your patience greatly as we continue development on our remaining roadmap updates, and we’re so excited to finally co-launch Alien Hominid Invasion and Alien Hominid HD to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5! Now bring out the dancing aliens!

Alien Hominid HD 

Ready to experience Alien Hominid HD in shiny 4k glory on your TV? With your mighty blaster and a group of mysterious kids by your side, destroy the Agency and reclaim your spaceship! Fight your way to Area 51 and beyond to rack up those trophies, or take a break from the chaos with any of the original mini games (including 500+ PDA Game levels!).

If you played the original game released on PlayStation waaaay back in 2004, you may notice a few improvements in Alien Hominid HD, including enhanced visuals, various quality-of-life updates, pesky bug fixes, and TURBO FIRE! That one-hit health bar is still there, though, so be sure you’re ready for the classic hardcore gameplay, otherwise you can tweak the difficulty to your liking and make the chaotic killing experience juuuuuust riiiiiight.

Alien Hominid Invasion

Got your spaceship back? We’re only getting started! Continue the chaotic adventure and join the Invasion with up to four players in this fast-paced, objective-based shoot ‘em up! Beam down to hand-drawn neighborhoods to steal enemy intel and sabotage the Agency’s plans. Carve out your own gameplay path to the enemy HQ and take down each mission’s boss; reap the rewards through unlockable mutations, weapons, abilities, and more!

On PlayStation 5, Alien Hominid Invasion will support 120hz for the first time on any console, and your DualSense controller will light up with the color of your alien’s pigment! It’s time to grab your co-op crew, get down to Patric Catani’s intergalactic beats, and make your way to the enemy HQ!

We’re heading to TwitchCon EU in Rotterdam this weekend to showcase the upcoming Painter Boss Paradise DLC and BEHEMOTH, our team’s latest arcade extravaganza! This marks our second time exhibiting at TwitchCon, and it’s the first time we’ve ever had a booth at the Rotterdam show!

When we originally released Alien Hominid Invasion and Alien Hominid HD on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox back in November of 2023, we saw many fan requests for a PlayStation release. We made it a priority for our Behemoth Roadmap to increase the games’ availability on console, and today we’re excited to share that both Alien Hominid titles will be co-launching on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in just two weeks!

On Tuesday, June 10th, at 10:00 AM PT, both games will be available for purchase on the PlayStation store at the following prices:

Tradeshows are one of our most favorite-est things when it comes to Making Games, because we get to bring our games to life on our homemade arcade cabinets with YOU! After having gone to many shows over many years, this indie studio (The Behemoth, that’s us) is still committed to hauling our actual blood, sweat, and tears to you across the country through our Arcade Cabinets* and daily competitions surrounding them!

It’s the dawn of the second day and the Behemoth chickens have left their temporary Boston coops to head to brilliant booth 18055, where they’ll spend the rest day of the day free ranging among the tradeshow floor–hosting competitions, making magic happen. It’s good to be a Behemoth chicken.

On our docket today is a BattleBlock Theater Ball Game Tournament at 3PM! Signups will be taken from 10AM  to  1PM, so make sure you get your name down because nobody likes a crybaby, eh? And get ready to get dunked on! Or be the dunkee. That, my friend, depends on your skillz.

Our BattleBlock Theater 2v2 Ball Game Tournament has drawn to a triumphant close!In first place, the team “Hatty’s Prison”! What a delightfully pleasant name! 

In second place is “Hoopes Paradise”! They tried so hard, and got so far (three rounds!) and in the end, it mattered a bit, because they got our runner up prize! Congratulations to these two teams, and thanks for visiting our booth and dunking on each other in front of a crowd for our entertainment! Y’all are the reason why keep doing what we do.

Our latest game, BEHEMOTH, recently got its arcade cabinet makeover! Part of the reason we created this game was to have another fun arcade cabinet at the shows we travel to! At The Behemoth, we like creating fun things, both digitally and IRL! We broke the arcade cabinet in by having a couple of competitions to see who could go the furthest in our new One-Hit Challenge Mode! 

Players control the movement of their chicken with the joystick on the left, and flap their wings to gain altitude by pressing down on our giant wing button! Handmade by John Behemoth himself and our trusted band of Handy Behemoth Chickens!

It’s the dawn of the final day! We’re ready for you, PAX!

Today we have Mike “The Bearded Chicken” Welsh battling against any willing foes on THE original Behemoth game, Alien Hominid HD! Alien Hominid HD was our first game baby that led to the creation of the company. A notoriously difficult title, Alien Hominid HD has rooted itself firmly as a classic side-scrolling shoot ’em up. (It’s this chicken’s favorite Behemoth title, personally!) Come battle in “Beat a Dev Chicken at Alien Hominid HD” to see if you’re worth your salt!

In case you missed it: Alien Hominid HD and Alien Hominid Invasion, our recent 4-player co-op re-imagining of the original game, will be launching on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 VERY SOON!

Some lovely fans came back to our booth to ask us (US! Can you believe it?!) to sign their vinyl of Patric Catani’s ‘Video Game Music’! Sold in our merch store (once it reopens post-PAX), this bad boy can contain so many tracks that Patric Catani did for BattleBlock Theater (and Blox in Space!)Thank you for liking us enough to want our autographs <3


We also spotted someone wearing a cool shirt! Where did he get it? How many aliens can it contain? Are there matching shorts and hats to go along with this??? (Yes there is!) We sell a full Alien Horde getup in our magical merch store, so check back post-PAX if you would like to be dressed to the nine-billions!

And we’re getting ready for our 3PM “Beat a Dev Chicken” competition! Players will be up against Mike “The Bearded Chicken” Welsh in the video game he has mastered, Alien Hominid HD! Mike remains undefeated since we started this competition at PAX East last year, but will a new challenger approach? Will an alien rise to the occasion and dethrone our bearded chicken dev?!

Here you can see two Behemoth Chickens in their natural habitat, The Behemoth Booth, modifying our BEHEMOTH cabinet to also display Alien Hominid HD. This way, Mike and his Formidable Foe he goes up against will each have their own cabinet! Fun fact: as you can see, we only have one Alien Hominid HD cabinet. The first time we attempted this competition format, we took the video display that you see to the right of the Alien Hominid HD cabinet, and swung it around. Mike then played on the “Player 2” controls on the cabinet whilst looking WAY away from the controls.

Now, Mike will still be looking at a different screen, but will be a whole lot closer!

Here we see Mike in his natural habitat, ruminating over the best alien acrobatics he can think of (SPAM THE SHOOT BUTTON!!!) He’s ready to run circles around the competition, look at those shoes!
