Journey to Comic-Con 2006 (Part9)
By: John Baez

Today we will see the finished gaming pod that we will use at comic-con this year. Incase you missed the previous section of the construction process, you can find them here. Or you can navigate from the dropdown menu above.

The shelf is cut to size on the mostly trusty old DeWalt table saw. I never made a sled for crosscuts and pay for it now as I trim out the ends. Factory adjustable angle thingies for crosscuts suck.

If the butcher block was just plopped down on the horizontal tubes it would look pretty rough, so we routed out the wood to center them on the middle of the tube.

The finished shelves fitted for adjustment. The ends of the tubes need to be finished next....

So a piece of foam is stuffed down the tube to cap it and we used JB Weld to finish the ends. The one on the right is just after the epoxy hardens, the one on the left has been sanded smooth.

The detail of the corner of the shelf. I wish I knew which knights boots those are in the picture.

And Finally......

We still need to add security for the console and some graphics for the top of the pod. If all goes well you will see it at our booth in about
6 days!
